"WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE:

AN IMPERFECT HISTORY OF BLACKNESS & QUEERNESS"

Exhibition Statement:

This exhibition, complementing the Black Queer Studies 25th Anniversary Conference at UNC, traces the academic and cultural evolution of Black and queer studies over three centuries. Beginning before emancipation, it explores national movements and cultural shifts, examining the intersections of Blackness and queerness in daily life and the cultural imaginary. Featuring works by Black feminist scholars, activists, and queer theorists, it includes archival photographs, oral histories, academic texts, and key figures.
